Biography

Letitia and James were married by the Rev. Robert O'Callaghan, B.D., Prependary of Ossary, and Rector of Castlenomer.[1] They sailed from Plymouth on July 16, 1849, as cabin passengers aboard the ship Una, with their 16 month old son, James. James (senior) served as the ship's chaplin during this journey. They arrived in New South Wales, Australia, on November 22, 1849, a family of four, with Letitia haven given birth to their first daughter, Sarah, at sea, a month before arrival in Sydney. The family lived in Jamberoo, where James served as the first Minister of the Parish of Kiama.[2]

Letitia and James and their children departed Australia for Ireland in June 1858, arriving in early 1860. Between March 1871 and 1873 they lived in the Dungarvan Vicarage, County Kilkenny.[3]

Letitia and her youngest son, James, departed London aboard "Australia" for Sydney on October 11, 1894. For this trip, Letitia's nationality was recorded as "English" and she was listed as a single adult woman.[4]

Letitia died at age 75 and was buried in Mays Hill Cemetery, also known as Western Road Cemetery, with her husband and son, Alfred.[5]
