Birth

Thomas Edgecombe, born in New London, Connecticut, 1694.[1]

Baptism

Thomas, son of Mr. Edgecomb was baptized 2 August 1694.[2]

Marriage 1

Thomas Edgecomb and Katherine Copp were married, 14 Dec 1720, in Norwich, Connecticut. Thomas Edgcomb & Kathrine Copp, ware married ye 14th day of Novembr 1720. Katherine died 8 Mar 1741/2[3][1]

Children: births in Norwich
  1. Elizabeth bo. 9 Sep 1721[3], m. Jonathan Buttolph. She is deceased by 1751. Her daughter Elizabeth Buttolph is mentioned in her sister Patience's probate.[4]
  2. Katherine bo. 13 Feb 1722/3[3]
  3. Thomas bo. 16 Nov 1724.[3] Thomas died in Norwich April 30, 1755[1]
  4. John bo. 27 July 1726.[3] John was a soldier in the expedition against Cape Breton. He died there in 1746 age 20.[1]
  5. Jonathon bo. 15 May 1728.[3] Jonathan, a seaman, was taken by a Spanish privateer, Aug 3, 1752. He was carried to Campeachy and then Old Spain, kept locked up for several months. He picked the lock, escaped and reached a French port in safety. He boarded an English vessel, working his passage to England. Arriving in England he fell into the hands of a press-gang and was "enrolled" in a man-of-war. After about a year, he managed to escape and eventually arrived home Nov 30, 1754. He settled in Vermont.[1]
  6. Samuel bo. 6 Mar 1730[3]. Samuel became a Deacon in Groton, Connecticut and died Aug 14, 1795, age 65.[1]
  7. David bo. 19 Jan 1731/2; died at fourteen months.[3]
  8. Patience bo. 18 Jan 1733/4[3], d 1751 unmarried.

His Mother's estate

His mother died in December 27, and his half-brother Joshua Hempstead recorded the following in his diary:

02 January 1727/28: "Tuesd 2 fair. In the forn I was at home & dd to Samll Edgcumbe the bed & beding & other household Stuff that Mother had to use for life amounting to about £10 & Samll & Thos Edgcumbe Sold their part of all to me for £2 14s 7d Each for wch I gave them a note of hand to be pd by the 2d of Jan next, if Eliza Edgcumbe doth not procure the money to pay me for the two thirds of Sd goods by yt time yn I am to have them without any demands & wee discharged on an other. I also have adjusted the Estate tht mother left & have pd Brother Thomas his part in full of mothrs Estate."

Thomas Edgecomb and Esther Post(Poft) were married, 19 May 1743, in Norwich, Connecticut. Thefe may Certifie that Thomas Edgecombe and Esther Poft, Both of Norwich were married to gether on ye 19th day of may 1743: By me Benjn Lord Clerk [5][6]

No Issue

Residency in Norwich; Death

Thomas Edgecomb settled in Norwich, Connecticut before 1720 and died there Sept 16, 1745.[1] His step-brother, Joshua Hempstead, recorded the following entry in his diary regarding Thomas' death:

Tuesd 17. fair. I went up to Norwich to See Brothr Edgcumbe who Died in ye Evening before I got to the house about 7. Clock.[7]
