“These may Citify any that it may Concern that mr Joseph Edgerton, and mrs Eunice Meigs were married on the 11th day of may 1736. by me Jonathan Todd minister of ye Gospell at East Guilford.
Esther ye Daughter of Joseph Edgerton & his wife Eunice was born february 11th 1736/7
Hannah The Daughter of Joseph Edgerton & Eunice his wife was born march 18th 1738/9
Mary ye Daughter of Joseph Edgerton & of Eunice his wife was born July 4th 1741”
Note: I have done some minor editing to the above. The original typeface rendered lowercase s as something appearing to be a lowercase f (e.g., “Thefe,” “Gofpell,” “Eaft”). The name of daughter Mary was written entirely in lowercase, other than changing that, I have left the capitalization (or lack of it) as it appears in the original. Certain words and abbreviations ended in superscript letters (e.g., “mrs,” “ye”), I have changed that. I was unable to find anything, including in resources on archaic English, to explain the third word of the quote "Citify." I suspect it is just a misspelling of certify, but I have left it as it appears in the original.
Under the surname heading "Edgerton, Eggerton, Edgarton":
Betty, d. [Joseph & Eunice], b. Dec 31, 1746
Eunice, [w. Joseph], d. [ _________ ], 1755.
Joseph, s. [Joseph & Eunice], b. Apr. 2, 1744
Joseph, d. Mar. 6, 1753, in the 43rd y. of his age
Joseph, m. Eunice Meigs, [ _________ ]
Mary, m. Abraham Porter, May 27, 1778
Temperance, d. [Joseph & Eunice], b. Sept. 23, 1749
Note: With the Norwich records, this makes 6 known children for this couple; Esther, Hannah, Mary, Joseph, Betty, Temperance. The first three were born Norwich, the second three, Lebanon. It is possible, but not certain, that the Mary, whose marriage is given above, is their daughter Mary. If so, she was 36 years old at that marriage.
Neither the Barbour Collection volume for Madison (formerly East Guilford, see below), nor the volume for Guildford, contain references to any Edgerton.
East Guilford is now called Madison, Connecticut. Wikipedia: "Madison was first settled in 1641. Throughout the 18th century, Madison was known as East Guilford until it was incorporated as a town in 1826."
