Hi Lawrence,

Now that you have had a little time to try WikiTree, there are a few more features you may find useful.

Ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards, including some tips on writing biographies.

If you need to describe an event, an heirloom or a location relevant to your research, you may like to learn about Free Space Profiles.

Lastly, sometimes you'll run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving those unfortunate situations.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask via my profile page.

Ran out of space:

J. Howard Binns' wonderful book Meet the Edgertons (1970) is a tremendous resource for my line. It is not without flaws, but is far above 90% pinpoint accurate. Worthwhile to seek out for the descendants of Thomas of Haddonfield, NJ.

Hi Lawrance,

My paternal grandmother's maiden name was Edgerton, so I also follow the surname.

As far as I know, there are two Edgerton families that immigrated to America during colonial times. The two may connect back in England, but there is no solid proof of that.

The first Edgertons that I'm aware of settled first in Connecticut in the early 1600s. My line comes from Thomas Edgerton, who settled in New Jersey around 1730. Again, the two families may connect, but there is no clear proof.

I would love to know for certain who the parents of Thomas Edgerton who settled in New Jersey around 1730 were, but I have nothing solid there.

Greetings Lawrance!

I would say the odds are good we are related. My paternal grandmother's maiden name was Edgerton.

I know of two Edgerton families in America (there could be more that I haven't seen). One is a family that first settled in Connecticut in the 1600s, the other is the descendants of Thomas Edgerton, who settled in Haddonfield, New Jersey around 1730.

The latter is my known family. The two families may be connected back in England, but I have never seen any credible evidence supporting the connection.

If you are descended from either of these Edgerton families, you'll find many, if not all of them, already on Wikitree.

Looking forward to hearing from you, and learning anything new you have on the Edgertons.

I notice you have uploaded a GEDCOM. You will find that there are several stages in the process between uploading and importing a GEDCOM. Here are some things to do while you are waiting for your emailed match report:
  • Consider reading discussions about GEDCOMs in our forum, G2G

(After importing a large GEDCOM with multiple sources, I found that adding profiles by hand would have been more efficient. If you have a lot of sources for each profile, consider using the match function, but not the import.)
