I follow the Edgerton surname because I have Edgerton ancestors. My Edgertons are the descendants of Thomas and Sarah (Stephens) Edgerton of Haddonfield, New Jersey. There is a second Edgerton family which was prominent in the Connecticut area in American colonial times. The parents of Thomas Edgerton of Haddonfield are thus far unknown. I have seen nothing to connect Thomas of Haddonfield with the Connecticut Edgertons.
This seems to be a third colonial Edgerton family. There may be connections between two, or all three of these Edgerton families, but I can't document such a connection.
There is a website (Thomson) that gives rather detailed information on Elizabeth's parents and ancestors farther back, but it unfortunately doesn't cite sources for its data.
The page linked above gives the following for Elizabeth:
b. 1712, Nanesmond Co, VA/Northhampton, NC
d. 26 Apr 1749, Rich Square Monthly Meeting, Northampton Co., North Carolina
Father: William Patrick Edgerton (~1684 - 1770)
Mother: Mary Unknown (Possibly Williams) (1688 - )
Northampton County was formed in 1741 from Bertie County, so it did not exist at the time of her birth.
"It was in 1760 that a group of Friends from Hertford, Edgecombe, and Northampton counties, who had been meeting in the homes of Friends, was granted a request from the Quarterly Meeting in Perquimans County to settle a Monthly Meeting at Rich Square."
