Maria Edgeworth (1768-1849) a novelist and educationist. She was born on 1 January 1768 at Black Bourton, Oxfordshire, the eldest daughter and third child of Richard Lovell Edgeworth (1744–1817), inventor and educationist, and his first wife, Anna Maria Elers (1743–1773). Her father was married a further three times, first to Honora Sneyd in 1773. She never married, and d. 22 May 1649 at Edgeworthstown House, Edgeworthstown, co. Longford.[1]
