“Honora was only six when her father married his fourth wife so that she found a real mother in Francis Beaufort and grew up under her wise and tender care, her own mother’s sisters Mary and Charlotte Sneyd continued to live at Edgeworthstown and to them Honora was always specially devoted. She seems to have been a charming character with some of the talents of her lost sister Charlotte. There was a quiet devotion to duty joined to a very warm affectionate and calm and steady judgement which made her a very valuable and much loved member of the family. Her own brothers, Sneyd and William turned to her often for council, William especially, his death was a terrible blow to her. For some time she lived with her Aunts Mary and Charlotte in England at Bykley Lodge, Staffordshire.” (Notes from Christina Colvin at the Bodleian library)
