“Sophia was a pretty amiable girl with a gift of song – intelligent …. but I should say less intelligent than her sisters. They adored her, of course, and her singing was a constant pleasure and source of pride to them (see Maria’s letters). She must have had great natural gift but had little training, she married young and had four children. After the marriage she travelled to Italy for several months, Fanny accompanying, I don’t think she was ever strong after her fourth child’s birth - and for a few years, had a long cough that developed into consumption, and she died at Clifton in spite of all the skill and care of Dr King.” ( Husband to Emmeline (Edgeworth) King
