Biography

Alice Frederica Edmonstone was the daughter of William Edmonstone and Mary Elizabeth Parsons. Her birth was registered at Greenwich, London in the second quarter of 1868.[1] She was born on 29 April 1868.[2]

On 1 June 1891 she married George Keppel.[2] The marriage was registered in the St George Hanover Square district of London in the second quarter of 1891.[3]

A society hostess, she became mistress of Edward, Prince of Wales (the future King Edward VII) in 1898, and remained his mistress until his death in 1910. After his death she and her husband travelled in Ceylon and the Far East for two years.[2]

During World War 1 she helped to run a hospital for wounded soldiers in Boulogne, France.[2]

In 1925 she and her husband moved to Italy, where they bought a villa near Florence, where they hosted gatherings of prominent people.[2]

Alice died on 11 September 1947 at the Italian villa.[2] She left two daughters.[4]
