DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Elizabeth by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Elizabeth:
I note that Elizabeth is credited with having English ancestry and also for having been born in the Colony of NSW, but as her grandmother, Mary Connor, was born in Ireland, Elizabeth also has Irish ancestry, which needs to be acknowledged.
As widowed mother of 11 children - the last to have been my grandmother Elva Josephine Butler, born in 1886, Elizabeth married Daniel Budge only about twelve months after the death of her first husband, my great grandfather Robert William Butler in 1888. Records of an earlier time, recorded in Butler Family Blog, suggest that the Butlers lived in the same community as the Budge family in the early years of their marriage before they moved closer to Grenfell. There were no children of the marriage to Daniel Budge for whom this was also a second marriage. Daniel had children from his first marriage. My grandmother moved from Sydney to care for her mother in her final years and the family comprising her husband, Reuben William Bollard, and children, John William (Jack) Bollard, Mary Elizabeth (Molly) Bollard, and Valma Jean Bollard, all moved with her to reside at Surrey House at Piney Range just outside Grenfell. As a child and later as an adult I was told many tales of this period - not all of them pleasant - and the scars of that period remained with my mother, Molly, for all of her life, inspite of the gentle love and protection afforded her by my dear father, Thomas Francis Tracy.
The report that Elizabeth Butler Budge died at Cowra does not fit with discussion of her death which occurred within my family. As Elva was there to care for her mother, Elva’s report of her mother’s death at Piney Range Grenfell would seem more likely. Perhaps the death was registered at Cowra for some reason…..perhaps one of her sons lived near to that town?
