Biography

Joseph Priestley Edwards was born in 1818, and baptised in 1821. ^[1] He was the son of Henry Lees Edwards and Lea Priestley.

He gained the rank of Captain in the service of the West Yorkshire Yeomanry Cavalry. He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Yorkshire. He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Yorkshire. He lived at Fixby Park, Yorkshire, England. He lived at Castle Carr, Yorkshire, England.

He married Margaret Norris, daughter of James Edward Norris, on 16 January 1844.^[2]

Lea Priestley Edwards (b. 1846, d. 1922) who married his cousin, Emily Gertrude Edwards, daughter of Sir Henry Edwards, 1st Bt.

Joseph and Margaret were divorced in 1867, on her petition.^[4]

Joseph died on 20 August 1868 in the Abergele Rail Disaster at age 49. At the time of his death he resided at Fixby Park, York, and his profession was given as Merchant and Manufacturer. He died at Abergele, County Denbigh, reportedly in a train accident. His will was proved by his brother Sir Henry Edwards Bt, of Pye Nest, Halifax, and his brother-in-law Samuel Waterhouse Esq. of Hope Hall Halifax, also Frederick William Cronhelm Esq. His estate was worth up to 140000 pounds. ^[5]
