Hannah Edwards was the daughter of Alexander Edwards, one of the first settlers of Northampton, Hampshire County, in England's Massachusetts Bay colony, New England. She was born in Springfield, Hampden County, on February 18, 1645.[1]
There has been some controversy over who exactly was Alexander Edward's wife and mother of his children. Her name was Sarah and she was, by all accounts, the widow of John Searle, an English immigrant to New England around 1640 and friend of Alexander Edwards. The controversy is whether her maiden name was "Bailey," as is commonly accepted and if that, was she from Connecticut or Massachusetts (there were 2 possible Sarah Baileys living then). The latest, most-accepted version is that she was Sarah Bailey, christened on June 25, 1621 in Cholesbury, Chesham parish, Buckinghamshire, England. She was the daughter of Richard Baldwin & wife Isabel (Harding) Baldwin, of Cholesbury, Buckinghamshire, England.[2]
On March 4, 1669 in Northampton, Hampshire Co., Massachusetts Bay colony, Hannah Edwards married Samuel Davis, b: February 21, 1645 in Roxbury, Suffolk Co., Massachusetts.[3] The couple had 4 children: [4]
Hannah (Edwards) Davis died on September 11, 1680 in Northampton, Hampshire Co., Massachusetts Bay colony. Her husband survived her passing another 10 years. He remarried two times and he died July 26, 1690, also in Northampton, Massachusetts Bay. No grave sites have been identified for them. [5]
