William was born in 1798, and baptised in St Mary's Church, Rotherhithe. He was a ship's carpenter, living on the docks in London, Rotherhithe. According to the baptismal records for his daughter Caroline, William was a boat builder residing in Paradise St Rotherhithe in 1827. He married and started a family in London, then emigrated to Australia. William married Bridget Taylor by Banns. Saint John the Evangelist Church, The marriage was witnessed by Robert Alexander ( is this Bridget's uncle?) , Martha Edwards (William's sister) and Elizabeth Taylor ( is this Bridget's sister or mother?) Bridget and William emigrated to Western Australia, William first in 1829 followed by Bridget and daughter Caroline.
