Clara E. Edwards was born in 1905. Clara was only 5 when her parents passed away, and she eventually went to live with relatives in Nebraska. Once Clara and Lawrence Sevier McAlister married, they decided to make Muskogee, Oklahoma their permanent home. The McAlisters raised their three children, Lawrence ]r. (Mac), John, and Barbara Claire in the quiet hometown atmosphere. When the children were old enough, Clara began to devote herself to community and civic causes.
Always active in her church, she was Circle Leader and President of the Women's Department. Clara also involved herself with genealogy, bridge, and stamp art collecting, and was a member, registrar, and regent of the D.A.R.
Clara’s love of art on stamps eventually led her to form a group and begin publication of the magazine, "Fine Arts Philatelist". She took the position of founder and editor. This nationally recognized magazine is still published today, and lists Clara as a founder. She passed away in 1996.
