Origin of the spurious 'lilburn' claim: Anne Wright married Thomas Griffin in 1666

1671

Married John Edwards 1671 No land records for this particular Edwards, He may have been quite young. It was known that his name was Edwards, as his wife was called Ann Edwards. Her sons were also named as Edwards. Others believe his given name was John son of Robert Edwards, as shown in the ancestral file, but I can not find any evidence other than circumstantial. Another lady by name of Kathy Lynam said her family records have his name as Lillburn, so perhaps his name was John Lillburn?? Edwards but no proof. [1]

One John Edwards was transported by John Sipsey of Elizabeth City aboard the "Southampton" in 1622. Possibly another candidate for father.

As it was highly unusual to encounter middle names during the 17th century, the 'Lilburn'middle name is suspect. Does anyone know of a source document that contains it? Anything besides a submitted family tree? Thanks in advance for responses!
