Biography

John Edwards was born about 1644, son of Rice and Joan ( ___) Edwards of Wenham, Massachusetts. ^[1]

He married first at Beverly, Massachusetts on May 20 or 21, 1666, Mary Solart/Solare. ^[2][1]

His wife Mary died prior to March 1682/3, when John Edwards, husband of Mary Solart, deceased, is named in the estate of Joseph Solart. ^[1]

John married as his second wife by 1685, Sarah Woodin. ^[1] Sarah was born in January or February, 1656/7 at Salisbury, Massachusetts, daughter of John and Mary (Johnson) Wooden. ^[3]

He was a mason who died at Wenham on August 28, 1697.

He died intestate. His estate, inventoried on September 1, 1698, included no real property and was valued at 61.02.00 pounds. His widow Sarah Edwards was appointed administrator . ^{[4] [1]}

In 1702, John Edward Jr. petitioned the court for a distribution of the estate. It was granted. Children named in it were John, eldest son, Elizabeth, Mary, Abigail, Martha, Sarah, Samuel, Tabitha, Ellinor, Joseph, Hannah, Deborah ,Joshua, and Thomas. ^[4] These children were from both of his marriages. ^[1]

After his death, widow Sarah married second Joseph Doty at Rochester, Massachusetts on March 5, 1711/22, as his second wife. ^[1]
