Biography

Early Life

Thomas Edwards was born on June 19, 1725, in Chester, Pennsylvania.^[1] His parents were Joseph Edwards and Sarah (Nealy or Nalley) Edwards.

Marriage

He married Mary Hiatt, the daughter of John Hiatt and Rachel Wilson, in about 1750.^[1][2][3]

Death & Burial

Thomas died on or before July 14, 1791 (the date his will was probated).^[4] He is buried in Edwards Cemetery, Capon Bridge, Hampshire, West Virginia.^[1]

Research Notes

Another source gives his place of birth as Frederick, Virginia,^[11] and Chester, Pennsylvania as his father's birthplace.^[12] However, Joseph Edwards (the father of Thomas) was not given a land grant in Virginia until 1748,^[7] so it is possible that Thomas was still born in Pennsylvania. There is no record of when the Edwards family actually settled in Virginia, but there is some evidence they were there in the 1730s^[7], which would still have been after the birth of Thomas. - Edwards-33484 19:04, 9 November 2021 (UTC)
