Sarah Egbert was born July 15, 1810 in Warren, New Jersey, a younger daughter to James and Rachel (Bray) Egbert. In 1837, she married her 2nd cousin, Gabriel Shotwell Ogden (their mutual ancestor being Andrew Bray (1713-1789) and his wife). Shortly after, the young couple made the treacherous voyage through the Great Lakes to settle in the new state of Michigan, where they began their family. They ultimately had six children together before Gabriel's death in 1851. Sarah remained a widow, running the farm and taking care of their children until her own death in 1872.

Biographical Segment from a profile of her son John
From the book Portrait and Biographical Album of Oakland County, Michigan, page 794, profile of John D. Ogden:
"The parents of our subject were married in Mt. Bethel, N.J. The mother’s maiden name was Sarah E. Egbert. She was born in 1810 in Warren County, N.J. All but one of her six children arrived at maturity. They were: Mary, Mrs. Austin; Rachael, deceased, Lucy, Mrs. Molby; Sarah, Mrs. Buzzard; J. Durbin, and Hulda, Mrs. Bird. Their mother died at the age of sixty-two years, and both she and her good husband lie in the Mt. Bethel cemetery. Her father was a large farmer and stock-raiser in New Jersey, a man of wealth and an active member of the Methodist Church."
Notes
Mary and Eli Bird, spouses of John and Hulda Ogden respectively, were siblings. The couples married within one month of each other, in 1872.
Although no birth record for Sarah has yet been found, confirmation of her parentage comes from her father's will, which includes mention of every one of his children, including "Sarah Ogden".
