Notes on Purported Son, Thomas
This is Sir John Egerton, 3rd Baronet of Egerton and Oulton (c. 1658–1729). Oulton also sometimes appears as Wilton. Some brief information on this Baronetage can be found here. More information on Sir John, 3rd Bt, can be found on this page, which cites Burke's Peerage as its source. The Wikipedia page for the Egerton (later Grey Egerton) baronets, discusses the creation of the baronetcy and lists the succession of the title, including Sir John, 3rd Bt., but there is no separate article on Sir John.
None of the sites linked above indicate that Sir John had a son named Thomas. Family stories have long claimed that Thomas Edgerton was the son of a "Lord Edgerton," disowned by his family for conversion to the Quaker faith. I have seen no solid evidence that this is actually the father of Thomas Edgerton. I have only seen internet sources, which don't cite their own sources. This connection is in serious doubt. No parents or siblings for Thomas are firmly known to me, though I continue to search.
Binns mentions William and Joseph Edgerton (p. 1) being in Haddonfield, New Jersey at the time of Thomas' marriage or shortly after, but says only that they, "...may have been brothers of Thomas. At least it seems likely they were near relatives, and all had come from Ireland." He offers no established information regarding Thomas' parents or other ancestors.
Again, family stories say Thomas was English by birth, and many English Quakers indeed migrated to Ireland in hopes of escaping persecution in England, but I have seen no actual evidence for his birth in England, or anywhere else.
