Hedwig Martha Emma 'Hedi' Ehrenberg was born on 14 Dec 1891 in Göttingen, Göttingen, Deutsches Reich. She was the daughter of jurist Victor Ehrenberg and Elise von Jhering (a daughter of the jurist Rudolf von Jhering).
Hedi married physicist and mathematician Max Born on 2nd August 1913 in Berlin, Brandenburg.[1] Max won the 1954 Nobel Prize for Physics for his research in quantum mechanics and the wave function.[2][3]
Having been widowed for two years, Hedi passed away on 29 Feb 1972 at age 80 in Göttingen. She was buried at Stadtfriedhof Göttingen in Göttingen next to Max[4] and her parents.[5]
She was survived by her children Irene (1914-2003), Gritli, and Gustav. Singer and actress Olivia Newton-John was her granddaughter through Irene. Actor Max Born (Fellini Satyricon) is her grandson. Her great-grandchildren include songwriter Brett Goldsmith, singer Tottie Goldsmith, racing car driver Emerson Newton-John, and singer Chloe Rose Lattanzi.
