Biography

Young Eison is a part of US Black heritage.

Young was born about 1838. He passed away in 1916.

Young was enslaved by John Hames Eison. He was likely brought with John, and his other enslaved persons, from South Carolina to Double Bridges Tennessee in about 1846. In 1909, Young was a witness in a Chancery Court Case, Lucinda Gamble, et al versus Clara Rucker et al. In this case, he gave some insight to his life during his enslavement, including how he came to be married to his first wife Sarah Pillow. Though there were no dates provided, he did state that he had been given Sarah before and during the Civil War and that both his "Master" and hers had agreed that they could be married. He states that he was married by David Pillow. He stated that he was 71 years old. This information has been provided largely by R Starkey, who was also researching enslaved persons of John H Eison.
