Stephen Elam was born about 1747 in Chesterfield, Virginia. He was named in his father Lodowick Elam's will providing him with land. Stephen married Dianna Sims, 25 May 1789 in Chesterfield, Virginia. Edward Sims was bondsman, likely her father.[1] Stephen and Dianna migrated to Williamson, Tennessee by 1809.[2][3] He had purchased land in Williamson County on the Big Harpeth River by 1812.[4] He passed away by December 1812, when his widow Diana Elam and Moses Ridley were named as Administrators of his estate. His Estate Inventory was filed 8 Jan 1813, Williamson, Tennessee. Guardian Bonds were court approved for his two minor children, Joel Elam and Elizabeth Elam.[5]Stephen Elam's widow, Dianna Sims Elam, and children were still living on the home plantation in 1815.[6]
