OBITUARIES

Melvin Andrew Elbert of Whittemore, 66, died Thursday at the Good Samaritan Center following an illness of eight months. Funeral Services were held in the Chapel of the Geilenfeld-Schaaf-McCullough Funeral Home in Algona at 10:30 a.m. Saturday with Father Armond Elbert of Sioux City, a brother of Melvin, Presiding. Burial was in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in St. Paul, Minn. Pallbearers were Alfred Bell, Lorenz Vigdal, Francis Kollasch, Harold Heinrich, Francis Fandel and Gene Rochleau. Melvin was born at Whittemore on Jan. 31. 1919, a son of Andrew B and Christina Kollaach Elbert. He graduated from St.Michael's High School in 1937 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy on February 11, 1942. He served four years as a Chief Carpenter Mate and was discharged in March of 1946. Melvin was married to Anabelle Crawford at Algona on June 18, 1947 and the couple lived in Whittemore. He is survived by his wife, Annabelle, and four children; Tom, Chicago; Susan, Mrs. Greg Hotzler, Minnetonka, Minn.; Tim, at home and a step-son, Terry Behlmer of Bloomington, Minn. There are three grandchildren. Five brothers also survive; Norvin, Grafton, N.D., Kenneth, San Diego, Caliif.; Dean and Charles of Whittemore and Father Armond Elbert of Sioux Falls, S.D. He was preceded in death by his parents.
