James Bailey Elder was born 24 December 1848 at Carroll County, Missouri. He was a son of Bailey Elder and Elizabeth Unknown. [1]

James B. Elder appeared in the household of Bailey Elder on the 1850 U.S. Census at District 15, Carroll County, Missouri. He was listed as 1 year old, and born in Missouri. He was living with his parents, and three siblings. [2]

James B. Elder appeared in the household of Bailey Elder on the 1860 U.S. Census at Morris Township, Carroll County, Missouri. He was listed as 12 years old and born in Missouri. He was living with his parents and three siblings. [3]

James Elder appeared in the household of Thomas Elder on the 1870 U.S. Census at Atchison, Atchison County, Kansas. He was listed as a 21-year-old laborer, born in Missouri. He was living in his brother’s household, along with his father, and a sister. [4]

James Bailey Elder married Sarah Martha Sutton about 1876. [5]

James Elder appeared as Head of Household on the 1880 U.S. Census at Clay Township, Andrew County, Missouri. He was listed as a 31-year-old farmer, born in Missouri (his parents were born in Kentucky). He was living with his wife, and two children. [6]
