Biography

Nellie was the daughter of John and Martha (Hill) Elder of Randolph County, North Carolina, and the sister of Jesse, John, and Thomas Elder. She was born in 1899. Her father was a farmer in Randolph County. Nellie married Frank Sampson in 1916 in Randolph County. They lived in Grays Harbor County, Washington, where Frank was a mechanic and engineer for a lumber company. Their children were Lewis, Floyd, Leona, Ethel, Howard, Donald, and Dale Sampson.

Nellie and Frank divorced around 1933, and Nellie married Ernest Warren. He worked for a construction company in Bremerton, Washington. According to the US Census, in 1940, Frank had Floyd, Howard, and Donald living with him, and Nellie had Leona and Dale with her and her new husband. Ernest and Nellie had one child, Kenneth Warren. Nellie died in 1974 and is buried in Forest Memorial Gardens in Olympia, Washington.
