Biography

Birth

Elizabeth Elder was born on the 7th of February 1743 in Prince George's County, Maryland.[1][2] she is the daughter of Willam Elder and Jacoba Livers. She was William ‘s sixth child and Jacoba’s first.

Elizabeth Elder married Richard Brawner (b: 3 Mar 1736) in 1760 in Frederick County, Maryland. They had children:[1]

Some of the Brawner children's names can be found on the Find a Grave website. They are also mentioned in the wills of Richard Brawner (GH //2:30) and Elizabeth, and the genealogy account of Philip Cahill.
Elizabeth was mentioned in her father’s Will proved in 1776 “My will is that if my said wife should marry then all my personal estate to be sold and the m oney to be equally divided among my beloved children namely ARNOLD, THOMAS, IGNATIUS, FRANCIS , ALOYSIUS ELDER, EUZABETH BRAWNER and ANN SPALDING their heirs and assigners forever.”
Elizabeth and Richard Brawner lived their lives on "Elder's Kindness."Elizabeth continued to maintain their farm after the death of Richard in 1783. In the 1790 census, Elizabeth is listed with six children and four slaves. Sometime after the 1790 census, Jacoba Clementina (Livers) Elder moved into the Brawner home with her oldest daughter. The Brawner home later became known as Mrs. Bennett's boarding house.
Elizabeth was mentioned in her Mother’s will of 1807 “:Whereas the sum of seventy pounds was due me by John Coskery of Taneytown and secured to me by mortgage on a house and lot in the said Taneytown and for which I give a deed in trust to my son FRANCIS ELDER and upon which I received already twenty dollars, I leave to my sons THOMAS and FRANCIS and my daughter ELIZABETH BRAWNER twenty pounds each to be paid to them out o f the said sum of sixty two pounds ten shillings balance due me on said mortgage.”

Death and Burial

She passed away, aged 77 years, she died before the 29th of November 1820 in Frederick County, Maryland, USA. She is buried in the Saint Anthony's Shrine Cemetery, in Emmitsburg, Frederick County, Maryland, USA[2]
