Biography

US Black Heritage Project
Charlie (Scott) Elder is a part of US Black heritage.

Charles Elder was the son of Mary Ellen Bullard. He adopted the name or was possibly adopted by his stepfather, George Elder. [1] In 1910 he was listed in the census as "Charles Scott" and he was living with his mother, stepfather, and younger siblings in Dallas, Texas.[2]

Charles served in the US Army during World War I, first with the 165th Depot Brigade, then in the 312th Reserve Labor Battalion. He did not serve overseas.[3]

He married Almeta (Almeda) Harris. According to biographies of his son, Lee, Charlie and Almeta had ten children.

Charlie was a truck driver for Pulliam & Trewitt Coal Co. at one time. [1]

He was killed by a homocidal act (stab wound to the heart) in Dallas, Texas on September 25, 1942. [1]

He was buried at Lincoln Memorial Park in Dallas, Texas.[4][1]
