Biography

Nell served as an Army nurse in WWI. She was discharged on 11 Dec 1918, a few months after she enrolled. She never married.

As a tribute to her work as a nurse during World War I, Miss Elder was given a life membership in the DuBois American Legion Post. She was a surgical nurse with Dr. S. M. Free and associates for over 20 years. She practiced nursing in California for a short time, then located in Washington, D.C., and retired in 1963.
