Notes:

• Living with wife Jane Ann.
• Married for 39 years, during which they had 5 children, 3 of which were still living at the time of the census. John was one of the deceased children, having died in 1904 of pneumonia. Hannah Jane and Alice were mentioned in the Will signed in 1919, so it can be inferred that they were still alive in 1911.
• Retired Railway Engine Driver with a pension.

Death

Matthew died on January 13, 1921 in Bridlington, Yorkshire.^[9]

Last Will and Testament

Dated the 6th of May 1921 and with a net value of £2172 4s 4d (gross value £2209 16s 6d). The executors and trustees were Matthew's wife Jane Ann and his son-in-law Arthur James Sigsworth.
All money was given to his wife. The piano was given to his grandchild Alice Carr. Household furniture, etc. was given to the trustees for use by Jane Ann during her life.
Shares of the estate were equally split between his daughters Anna Jane Whiting and Alice Sigsworth. If Alice died before leaving issue, any trusts were to be passed to her husband Arthur James Sigsworth.
The Will was signed November 24, 1919 by Matthew Elders at West & Son Solicitors, Bridlington.
