Biography

Joseph Eldred was the son of John Eldred, a merchant of the City of London and his wife Mary Revett and was the second of their sons to be named Joseph. Joseph was baptised at the church of St Michael Bassishaw in the City of London on 28 January 1609/10: ^[1]

Joseph became a Fellow of New College Oxford and became a Bachelor of Common Law on 18 April 1634. ^[2]

He did not marry or have any known children.

Joseph drew up his will on 31 October 1645 aged about 36 years old, when he was "visited with sickness". ^[3] He died on 5 November 1645 and was buried in the College Chapel at New College. ^[2]

The will was proved at the Prerogative Court of Canterbury on 20 January 1645/6 by his brother John Eldred. ^[3] A transcription is here: Will of Joseph Eldred of New College Oxford, 1646
