Gertrude was the fifth of eight children in the family of Bernard and Catherine Bredengerd Ellefredt. Gertrude was working at the Victoria Hotel in Chicago when she was 19.[1]
She married William Dunz about 1909, when she was about 26. They are the parents of a son William and a daughter Catherine, both born in Missouri. By 1930, the family had moved to New Orleans, where William worked as a metal lather.[2] In 1940, William worked in a New Orleans housing project.[3]
She died at age 69[4] and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery, New Orleans.[5]
