The following biography of Jens Peter was written by his daughter, Evelyn.
"Jens Peter was first a farmer. He raised small grain, bred horses and milked cows. He farmed before the specialized farmer came into being. At one time he and his brother owned a threshing machine and they went around their farming community threshing their neigbor's oats. This was a big job and each man involved in the threshing ring was responsible for helping one another get their oats in their barns.
Pete farmed near St Clair, IA, Fayette, IA, and Cedar Falls, IA. He farmed during hard times, lastly, west of Cedar Falls, IA. He sold out after two or three straight years of crop failure due to draught and wind storms. After selling out all but household possessions, about 1925 or 1926, he moved his family off the farm and bought a nice bungalow on 1941 Belle Ave in Cedar Falls, IA.; Belle Ave being the last street in Cedar Falls before it joins Cedar Heights.
Here he tried factory work, house painting, and odd jobs. He soon learned that the most comfortable and lucrative thing for him to do was to apply his most evident talent, that of carpentry. He built houses to sell. He built on his own lots in Cedar Falls, sold all his property in Cedar Falls and moved on property he bought within the city limits of Reinbeck, IA. Here again he built and sold out. This time he and his wife Bessie went to Phoenix, AZ, for his health. He was afflicted with athsma and emphysema. He built a house in Phoenix also, but he passed away in 1956."
