Biography
Joseph was born in 1776.
Genealogical and Biographical Memorials of the Reading, Howell, Yerkes, Watts, Latham, and Elkins Families by Josiah Granville Leach lists Joseph as the son of William Elkins and Mary Points, and says that his wife was Nancy Fonts. He lists Elkins family records as the source for the first. There is a Baltimore marriage license, cited by Leach, for a Joseph Elkins and Nancy Fonts[1]. Leach lists Joseph and Nancy as the parents of William Elkins (husband of Mary Keefer) and Mary Elkins.
