Martha Saphronia "Nannie" Eller was a daughter of Presley Eller and Leaketh Patterson.
She married Calvin Jackson Daniels in 1891 on 16 January. They lived in the Flat Creek community of north Buncombe County and there raised their large family of at least nine children (by 1920): Roy Daniels, 27; Hardy Daniels, 23; Virgil Daniels, 21; Margaret Daniels, 18; Lula Daniels, 16; Dewey Daniels, 14; Emogene Daniels, 12; Pansy Daniels, 10; and Alfred Daniels, 7. Jack Daniels was farming.
When the 1940 census was taken on April 23, Nannie was the widowed head of household, age 69, at the family home in Flat Creek. Others there with her were daughter Pansy, 28; son Afred, 26; grandaughter Margaret Rice, 11; and grandaughter Selby Rice, 10. Alfred was employed as a book keeper at a retail auto parts store, with an income of $960 during the previous calendar year.
