Absolum, youngest son of Benjamin married in Pennsylvania was a Baptist minister, he removed about the year 1810 to Clark County Indiana, we know but little of his family; his son James, went as a soldier under General Harrison, was in the Battle of Tippecanoe, married a woman by the name of Shields, that he became acquainted with; the daughter of a backwoodsman, on the Tippecanoe, where the general had his headquarters. He settled after marriage in that neighborhood near his wife's father. She still retained many of the characteristics of the backwoods life, when I saw her in 1837 near Rochester, Fulton County, Indiana. The last I heard of James he moved to Stark County Indiana, his oldest son's name was Absalom, his two daughters were married, when I was there. John, Absolum's son, I think never married, was a roving, unsettled man. James Elliott born August 11th 1791 in Pennsylvania, either in Lancaster County or in Huntington County. His father was Absalom Elliot, and his wife's name is Ruth. The family names are James, Samuel, John, and Absalom. One Aunt of my grandfather's married Moses Vonscyoc who had a son Aaron. Our Elliott's moved into southern Indiana between 1798 and 1803. The only sister of James and eldest of the family was Annie, married Felix Boicourt.
while living in the fort in Jackson County she met James Elliott, a fine christian man. They were married after the close of the war of 1812, on December 7, 1815 in Salem, Indiana. They lived in Decatur County until 1827 when they, with other relatives, moved to northern Indiana in what is now Carroll County near Delphi. In August of 1829 they again moved into Fulton County near Lake Manitou. James Elliott, owning the land on which Rochester is now built, living in this vicinity, among the Pottawattomie Indians until 1837. They became well versed in the language. James served thru the War of 1812 under Capt. Bigger and Gen. Harrison at the battle of Tippecanoe.
James and Nancy Shields Elliott were the parents of thirteen children, ten of whom lived to maturity. Their names and birthdate are: Elizabeth Ann, February 23,1817; Margaret McClintoe, February 13, 1819; Absalom, August 27, 1821; James, 1823; Ruth Jane, November 15, 1825; William, 1827; John Perry, May 29, 1829: Mary, 1831: Jasper Newton, January 9, 1833; Nancy McCaleb, December 24, 1835; Isaac Tipton, February 6, 1837; Jesse Shields, June 10, 1840; Rebecca Ann, January 3, 1843.
