Gilbert Elliot was the second son of Gavin Elliot of Grange and Middlemilne[1]

He married his cousin Marion or Helen Stevenson in Edinburgh on 28 December 1680.[2][1]

His first wife having died without leaving any male children, he then married Jean Carre of Cavers on 17 March 1692.[1]

He was created 1st Baronet Minto on 19 April 1700.[1]

Gilbert died on 1 May 1718.[1]

The family came from Minto, near Hawick in Roxburghshire in the Scottish borders. [1]
