Currently Gavin Elliot-1674 who stayed at Robert Elliott-17068, Jr.’s house at Kemp's Tobacco Inspection Warehouse in Middlesex County, Virginia starting in 1745 are not connected on WikiTree. Robert Elliott-17068, Jr. is trace back to a William Elliot (c.1583-c.1652). Gavin Elliot-1674’s family tree is shown below (notice his grand mother was born in Harwood, Scotland; it appears a Harwood imported Patrick Miller to VA (1620 Scotland - c. 1675 assumed in Middlesex Co., Virginia) in 1650).

So Gavin Elliot and Robert Elliott, Jr.’s earliest common ancestor could have been Robert Elliot (c.1520-1566); making the two men no closer than 4th cousins. Would explain why Gavin Elliot refers to Robert Elliott, Jr. as Mr. Robert Elliott (rather than say cousin) given their more distant common ancestor.

It is quite possible that the Miller’s followed a similar migration pattern as the Elliott’s with some staying in Scotland and some immigrating into at least Northern England and even into London/Bristol areas over the generations. This immigration likely was mainly driven by merchant activities. Patrick Miller (1620 - c. 1675) appears to have been born in Scotland; however his descendants seemed to associate with a number of families from Northern England (around Liverpool, etc.). This could be driven by the fact Virginia tobacco was being shipped back to mostly England in the 1600’s/very early 1700’s; and more and more to Glasgow starting around 1710.

Caleb Elliott (1714-1789) who married Margaret Boulware would be Robert Elliott, Jr.’s 2nd cousin.
