Thc Black Laird and Jean Elliot were the parents of:
1. RICHARD (c.1580-1603) whom his grandfather gave Edgerston in 1598. Hood, very confused here, said his fictional Richard of the previous generation, perhaps meaning this man, m. Jean dau. of William Elliot of Larriston but had no sons (HCh). If as Tait said he d. June 1603 (IlkT 16) he must have predeceased both father and grandfather.
2. ROBERT the heir.
3. WILLIAM, given by Hood who said he had no issue (HCh).
4. ANDREW* appr. as 'brother-german to Robert R. of Edgastoun' July 21, 1619 to William Hamilton, skinner of Edin. If this was the Andrew of Edin., glover, who wrote Barbara Abernethy's will, he lived to a great age.
5. JEAN. Hood's muddled chart said Thomas' dau. Jean m. William Scott of Hartshaugh and gave Oct. 26, 1641 for the contract, which is impossibly late. He gave another Jean shown as sister to Richard and Robert and so intended for this generation, who m. William second son of William Elliot (MS 7, 737 called him Robert) of Larriston. Neither was right. G.S. Elliot showed Thomas' dau. Jean m. William Elliot of Hartsgarth and was served heir-portioner to her grandfather Gavin Elliot in 1607; she was dead by 1621 when her son Robert was served heir (IlkC xciii).
