Amos Wilson Elliot was born December 31, 1841 to Thomas "Matthew" Elliott and Anna "Ann" Wilson Elliott in Meigsville, Morgan, Ohio, United States. He married Elizabeth Jane (Henkle) Elliott (1843–1880) on August 5, 1862 in Rensselaer, Jasper, Indiana, United States. Elizabeth was also possibly known as Eliza or Etza. The couple had several children including Alice Elliott also later known as Alice Mitchell. Her name unofficially changed when her maternal aunt and uncle raised her after sometime Alice's first birthday. Their other children were likely Henry, George, Harry, Atwood, Anna, Ida, Wilson. Alice was the last child in the family but was really the kids cousin.
Amos enlisted in the United States Civil War July 30, 1862 as a Private. He then enlisted August 22, 1863 in Company K, Illinois 76th Infantry until he mustered out on May 15, 1865.
Amos died October 10, 1891 in Cissna Park, Iroquois, Illinois, United States.
