Andrew Lewis was born in Malden, Massachusetts, in 1836, the son of Elias and Esther (Burkett) Elliot. [1]

He enlisted to serve in the Civil War when he was 23 years old. He was a private in Co. G of the 39th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment from September 2, 1862 until he was discharged June 5, 1865.

He married Mary Bell Boyce, daughter of James and Barbara Boyce, on February 3, 1876. [2]

Andrew tackled several occupations during his life. He was a shoemaker (1860), dye house worker (1870) and tailor.

He died in 1893 and was buried at the Salem Street Cemetery in Malden.
