My Mother was adopted in a private adoption when she was six weeks old, by Bernard "Ben" Clements Fangman Jr. and Bertha Deldea Schrader Fangman. The "adoptive" parents chose to change her birth name from Wilda Gene Ponsler-Elliott to Catherine(Kathryn) Jean Fangman. Her "adoptive" parents could not agree on the spelling of her first name, Catherine which was her father Ben's spelling choice, because he said she was named for his niece, Catherine Koch. Kathryn, which was her mother Bertha's spelling choice because she said she was named for a family friend, Kathryn Dennert. My Mom preferred Kathryn and she always spelled her name Kathryn. She hated her middle name Jean, and after my parents marriage, she mostly used the name of Kathryn Fangman Manship. My Mom's birth year was also changed , from 1922 to 1923, when she started to school, thus making if 1923 was her true birth year, she was adopted before she was conceived. My Mom never knew she was adopted or the facts about the adoption until she was in her 40s, which was after the death of her "adoptive parents" Ben and Bertha. She chose not to change any of her records to list anyone else as her parents but her adoptive parents , saying Ben and Bertha Fangman were her parents out of love and choice, not by genes, and they were they were the only people she ever called Mom and Dad. Mom knew the identity of her birth family, and always was grateful to them. She was never bitter toward her birth family, saying they made right decision concerning her adoption, out of love and what was best for her. Mom requested at her death, that Ben and Bertha be listed as her parents on her death certificate, obituary, and funeral card and that there be no mention of her adoption in her obituary. My family honored her wishes.

So if I have this correct Wilda Gene Ponsler, was adopted by the Fangman family. And Elliott must have been the bio-father. I might suggest https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Adoptions_and_Multiple_Parents for styles & standards.

Does the multiple names mean she was adopted? If so, are Elliott her parents due to the DNA tags? Or are Ponsler, due to the name at birth. I'm so confused here.
