Biography

Edith was born in 1849, and although she was registered with the GRO, she had not been given a first name at that point^[1]. Her given names are found in census records. She is the fourth child and third daughter of William Elliot and Anna Faber. She was christened on the 4th of September 1849 in Kirk-Leavington, Yorkshire.^[2]

In the 1851 census, at the age of 1 year, she is recorded as living in Low Worsall, Durham, with her parents and 4 siblings.^[3]

In the 1861 census, at the age of 11 years, she is again registered in Low Worsall with her parents and 7 of her siblings; this time she is noted as being single and a Scholar.^[4]

In the 1881 census, at the age of 31 years, she is recorded as living in Stainton, Yorkshire, with her parents and 3 of her sisters. She is noted as being single.^[5]
