The first Laird of Midlem Mill in the mid-17th century, was Gavin Eliott, also of Grange (son of `Gibbie wi the Gowden Gairters' and ancestor of the Earls of Minto), followed by Robert, another Robert and finally Gavin. It was sold to Prof. George Stewart in 1773.
