Biography

John Elliott was a native of County Down, Ireland. Around 1730 he settled on 400 acres of land in East Fallowfield, Pennsylvania which he received a patent on from the sons of William Penn. He passed away in 1808 and was buried in Upper Octorora in Chester County, Pennsylvania.[1]

Research notes

Family files list that John was a landowner in East Fallowfield Twp., PA in 1774, but not in 1753 taxtables.

John had the following children: Moses Elliott (d. 1812, married to Elizabeth Palmer), Martha Elliott (married to John Ingram), Mary Elliott (married to Robert Allison), Robert Elliott (married to Irolitee Palmer), and Ann Elliott (married to John Cleyney).[2]

On p. 444 of another document relating to Chester and Delaware Counties, Pennsylvania lists the children of John as: Robert, Moses, Mary (who married Mr. Allison), and a son who married Martha Ingram.[3] Was Martha Ingram the same person and interchanged as a daughter and daughter-in-law?

Upper Octorara Church named John Elliott as overseer of land division. He might be buried there.[4]

Information from estate papers gave Moses 1/2 tract of land and at his death it was to go to this eldest son John Elliott. The remaining 1/2 part of said land to : daus. Martha, wife of John Ingram; Mary, w/o Robert Allison. Friends Robert Gladen, Hugh Jordon and Robert Miller to make partition of said land. John Elliott was a landowner in East Fallowfield Township, PA in 1774 but not shown in 1753 taxables.[6]

In 1790 a John Elliot (1-1-3) and Robert Elliot (1-1-2) were listed in East Fallowfield Twp., PA (Chester); Robert Elliot (3-1-3-2-1) listed with no township in Montgomery Co., PA
