Biography

Thomas Elliott was assessed in Lancaster County, Virginia Colony, 30 Nov 1659, for fourteen tithables (tying his labor force for the county's fifth largest),[1] and for twenty-one tithables (tied for the fourth largest), 15 Nov 1660.[2] Later in the 1680s, 22 Nov 1668, Lancaster County assessed him for eleven tithables, on the county’s "southside,"[3] i.e., the part of the county that was then south of the Rappahannock River.[4]

Research Notes

  • This profile has been on hold because of the questions surrounding Sarah, a widow of a Thomas Elliot who then married a Robert George but whose parents were incorrectly assigned by Ancestry and conflated through various websites. I adopted this early in my WikiTree work and want to ensure its' accuracy. Becky Elizabeth

  4. Lancaster County today lies entirely north of the Rappahannock River. Until 1669, in which year Middlesex County was formed, Lancaster County straddled the river, thus leading the assessors to differentiate between the county's north and south sides. Sources:
