Biography

1870 US Census- living in Sparta, IL-aged 43 and 5 children James 43 b. Ohio, farmer; Sarah J. 36, b. VA, John A. 14 b. Ohio, Lilly J. 10 b. IL, Laura B. 7 b. IL, Ella S. 5 b. IL, Anna M. 2 b. IL. Moved to Illinois between 1856 and 1860. Living in Sparta Township 5 Range 5 W on same street as Dickeys, Stewarts, Galloways (Irish area)

1880 US Census: James 53, farmer, living in Eden, IL; Sarah J. 44, John A. 24, Laura B. 17, Ella 15, Anna 12, Henrietta 8. This census says both of James' parents are from Ireland and both of Sarah's parents are from Virginia. Lilly might be married as she would be about 20.

Marriage to Samuel Carnes (24, b. 1870) February 7, 1894, Eden, Randolph, IL. Parents: John Carnes and Ellen Jane Sands; James Elliott and Sarah Jane Dickey.

Marriage to W.C. Rust Aug 19, 1897-Sparta, IL William 33, Anna 29. William's parents are John Rust and Elizabeth A. Taylor. Anna's parents are James Elliott and Sarah Jane Dickey.

1900 US Census Anna 33, William C. Rust 36 (b. 1864-parents b. Maryland), Clyde 2. Has 2 living children. Living at 825 Bond Ave in East St. Louis, Ward 2, St. Clair, IL. William and Anna have been married 3 years. William is a trainman (this indicates that Anna had a previous marriage -Carnes?- and a child still living).

1910 US Census William 44, butcher in a retail market, Anna 42, Clyde 11, Edna 9 and May Carns-stepdaughter 14, living at 810 Market Ave, East St. Louis, St. Clair, IL. Married 12 years. Anna has had 3 children and 3 living. (this proves that Anna was previously married to Carnes/Carns up to about 1895 or 96 from May's age).

1920 US Census Anna 52 widowed, May 24 dau-not working, Edna 18 dau. clerk in packing house; living at 810 Market, East St. Louis, Ward 2, St. Clair, IL. Run boarding houses-4 male boarders all of same family from TN lodging.

Buried in Sparta, IL-death cert. doesn't name cemetery, but probably Caledonia as William's parents are buried there. Not in Findagrave, yet.
