He married JEAN MCCLURE Jun 1770 in Rockbridge County, VA, daughter of SAMUEL MCCLURE and MARY KELSO. She was born Abt. 1749 in Augusta County, VA, and died Bef. 1802 in Woodford County, KY.

Notes for ROBERT ELLIOTT: Rockbridge County, VA Deed Book B, pp. 19-20 – Robert & Jean Elliott sold their land in Virginia to James Kenady as witnessed by John Gay, James Elliott, Jacob Martin & William Kenady at a court held for Rockbridge County, Jan. 6th. 1789.

According to D. M. Elliott – Robert moved to Woodford County, KY before the birth of the two youngest children.

Robert witnessed the signing of Thomas Ratliff’s will in Woodford County on Aug. 18, 1796, & the will was proved by Robert’s oath in Woodford County Court on Jan. 3, 1797.

Notes for JEAN MCCLURE: D. M. Elliott refers to her a “Jennie” McClure.

Date of her death is based on Woodford County, KY court records stating that her younger children, James, Robert, Jane, Elizabeth, & Alexander were orphaned by the death of their father, Robert in 1802.

Robert fought in the French and Indian Wars of 1754 - 1763. He was assigned to a Company of the Virginia Regiment under Capt. Peter Hog. [2]

Robert Elliott served in the Revolutionary War in Capt. Rowland Madison's Co. of the 12th Virginia Regiment. [3]

He was at Valley Forge, The regiment saw action in the Battle of Brandywine, Battle of Germantown, Battle of Monmouth and the Siege of Charleston. Most of the regiment was captured at Charlestown, South Carolina, on May 12, 1780, by the British and the regiment was formally disbanded on January 1, 1783. Wikipedia.
