Biography

Susan Elliott was born 11 December 1824 at Adair County, Kentucky. She was a daughter of Alexander Elliott and Lucy Yates. [1] She was, likely, the female age 5-9 who appeared in the household of Alexr Elliott Junior on the 1830 U.S. Census at Adair County, Kentucky. [2] She was, likely, the female age 10-14, listed in the household of Alexr Elliott on the 1840 U.S. Census at Adair County, Kentucky. [3]

William McCandless married Susan Elliott in 1846 at Kentucky.[1] Susan’s sister, Mary Elliott, later married William’s brother, Willis McCandless.

Susan McCandles appeared in the household of William McCandles on the 1850 U.S. Census at Barren County, Kentucky. She was listed as 25 years old, and born in Kentucky. She was living with her husband, one child, and two additional people of unknown relationship. [4]

Susan McCandless appeared in the household of Alexander Elliott on the 1860 U.S. Census at Morris Township, Carroll County, Missouri. She was listed as 35 years old, and born in Kentucky. She was living with her father, brother, and two children. [5]

Susan McCandless was named in the will of Alexander Elliott 23 August 1860 (probated 16 January 1865) at Carroll County, Missouri: [6]

"I will and bequeath unto my beloved daughter, Susan McCandless, wife of William McCandless, a negro boy named Joseph, and infant girl named Molly, which I value at three hundred and seventy five Dollars, which is to remain hers and to go to the heirs of her body, and to remain in the hands of executors, as trustees, hereinafter mentioned, to furnish her and children the rents hire or proceeds of the same. And should she die and leave issue being at the time of her death, and her children also die before they arrive at mature age, I desire that her portion of my estate be divided equally among my children."

George W. Harrison married Mrs. Susan McCandless 30 November 1865 at Carroll County, Missouri. [7]

G.W. King married Susan Harrison 1 October 1868 at Carroll County, Missouri. [8]

Susan King appeared in the household of George W. King on the 1870 U.S. Census at Wakenda Township, Carroll County, Missouri. She was listed as 45 years old, and born in Kentucky. She was living with her husband, five step-children, two children, and a day laborer. [9]

Susan King appeared as wife in the household of George King on the 1880 U.S. Census at Carrollton Township, Carroll County, Missouri. She was listed as 56 years old, and born in Kentucky (her parents were also born in Kentucky). She was living with her husband, two step-children, and two children. [10]

Susan Kink appeared as mother-in-law in the household of Andrew B. McCormic on the 1900 U.S. Census at 2933 Holmes St., Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri. She was listed as 70 years old, born December 1824 at Kentucky (her parents were also born in Kentucky). It was reported that two of her four children were still living. She could read and write. She was living with her son-in-law, daughter, and their two children. [11]

Susan King died 20 February 1906 at Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri. She was 81 years old. She was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery at Carrollton, Carroll County, Missouri. [12]
