Melford Elliott was born 3 March 1826 at Adair County, Kentucky. He was a son of Alexander Elliott and Lucy Yates. [1] [2]

He was, likely, the male age under 5, listed in the household of Alexr Elliott Junior on the 1830 U.S. Census at Adair County, Kentucky. [3] He was, likely, the male age 10-14, listed in the household of Alexr Elliott on the 1840 U.S. Census at Adair County, Kentucky. [4]

Melford Elliott appeared in the household of Alexr Eliott Jr. on the 1850 U.S. Census at Adair County, Kentucky. He was listed as a 22-year-old farmer, born in Kentucky. [5]

Melford Elliott married Eliza Ann Wallace 10 March 1853 at Carroll County, Missouri. [6] Her maiden name was Sevier. Apparently, she first married a man named Wallace. [1]

Milford Elliot appeared as Head of Household on the 1860 U.S. Census at Monroe Township, Livingston County, Missouri. He was listed as a 33-year-old farmer, born in Kentucky. His real estate was valued at $675, and his personal estate at $600. He was living with his wife, a step-son, and three children. [7]

Melford Elliott was named in the will of Alexander Elliott 23 August 1860 (probated 16 January 1865) at Carroll County, Missouri: [8]

"I will and bequeath unto my son Melford Elliott, a negro girl names Ellen, which I value at three hundred and fifty Dollars, also One hundred and thirty two Dollars and thirty two cents, which I have paid him which I desire he shall stand charged with until the final distribution, at which time he shall be made equal.”

Melford Elliot appeared as Head of Household on the 1870 U.S. Census at Morris Township, Carroll County, Missouri. He was listed as a 44-year-old farmer, born in Kentucky. His real estate was valued at $800, and his personal estate at $500. He could read, but he could not write. He was living with his wife, and seven children. [9]

Melford Eliott appeared as Head of Household on the 1880 U.S. Census at Morris Township, Carroll County, Missouri. He was listed as a 53-year-old farmer, born in Kentucky. It was noted that he could not read nor write. He was living with his wife, and seven children. [10]

Melford Elliott appeared as Head of Household on the 1900 U.S. Census at Pleasant Hill Township, Sullivan County, Missouri. He was listed as a 74-year-old farmer, born March 1826 at Kentucky. He had been married 49 years. It was noted that he could read, but not write. He owned his home, free of mortgage, where he lived with his wife. [11]

Melford Elliott died 4 May 1907. Her was 81 years old. He was buried in Mount Zion Cemetery at Sullivan County, Missouri. [2]
