Birth

Francis (aka Frank) Ellis, the first child of the family, was born on 24th February 1909 at 95 Lawrence Av. in Manor Park, Ilford, the son of Frank Ellis and Ethal Strange[1]

Occupation

For most of his adult life he was a window Cleaner working the streets of Ilford and surrounding areas, progressing from a ladder on his bicycle to a Ford Escort Van in later years.

Marriage

Frank married Grace Randall on 1st Feb 1930 in Ilford, Essex.[4]

In the 1911 census Frank aged 2 is shown living in East Ham, Essex with his parents and older sister. [6]

1939 Register

In 1939 the Ellis family lived in 141 Gordon Rd. Ilford but by 1944 had moved to Uphall Rd. Ilford where a Land Mine type bomb killed his daughter Grace Ivy Ellis and seriously wounded his wife Grace Elsie. He was in the British 8th army 1942-44 and Frank was given leave to go home beacuse this tragic event.

1944

Frank was in the army during the latter years of WW2 and was an Artillery Gunner No. 1775925 in the Royal Artillery. During his time he served in Egypt. He was given compassionate leave after his daughter, Grace was kill by a V1 bomb in Ilford, Essex in 1944.


Death

Frank died of Cancer in Brentwood, Essex in 1985. [7]
